our food forrest

The City of Kwinana has recently extended the area in which KCS can operate on the land on Sloan’s reserve and a Fruit Forrest. This will illustrate the early farm activities at Sloan’s, while acknowledging the natural reserve nearby. The food forest will be a unique area incorporating indigenous trees to form a canopy, with indigenous plants mixed with their distant cousins, introduced food plants from around the world found in our modern cuisine. The food forest will play a key role in educating people, allowing hands-on workshops and activities to take place, promoting the natural environment, sustainable living and benefits of a healthy diet. This implementation stage will focus on improving the soil, installing an irrigation system, purchasing plants and equipment for the Fruit Forrest. KIT already has in-kind support from volunteers including a Draftsman who will draft plans for the Fruit Forrest and reticulation system and permaculture design specialists who will oversee, participate and implement the project. Attached to this application are the initial drawings.
